SUMMER READING 2025:

Reading with He(ART)!

Summer Reading programs help children and adults alike stay engaged and enthusiastic about reading during the summer, with contests and prizes to see who can read the most, regular programs and community events to enjoy, and educational opportunities while school is not in session. This summer's theme, Reading with He(ART), is designed to encourage participants to learn about and participate in various artforms throughout the summer. We encourage our patrons to sign up for Summer Reading in order to have a great time at the library all summer long, and maybe win some prizes!

What is the Summer Reading program?

The Summer Reading program is a chance to attend fun summer programs at the Library and record what you're reading as part of a low-key competition with other readers! At the end of the summer, the Library will distribute prizes to those participants who read the most over the course of the program, so read, read, read!

How does it work?

1) Register at the Library in person (just ask at any staff desk!) or online via the form below to get started participating! Participants must have or obtain a North Miami Beach Public Library card by the end of June 2025 in order to be eligible for prizes.

2) Every person who registers receives a Reading Log, where you'll record everything you read over the summer. Reading Logs are due back to the library by the end of the day on Friday, August 8th in order to be eligible for prizes. (If you run out of room on your reading log, you can print another one or else just attach another piece of paper to your original!)

3) The Library's team of librarians will total up the pages for every book read to arrive at the final numbers. (If you're concerned that a book you read is too obscure for the librarians to find, you can include its number of pages in your log, but we should be able to find most books!)

4) The Library will pass out prizes and certificates of recognition to our adventurous reading winners at our End of Summer / Back to School Celebration on Sunday, August 10th! If you're a winner and are not present at the event, the Library will contact you using the information provided on your registration or in your library card account.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How old does a patron have to be to be allowed to participate?

The Library welcomes participants of all ages from 2 on up! If your child wishes to participate and is too young to read for themself, you may read to them and record the books read in their Reading Log.

Do I have to read specific books or follow a list?

No, you're welcome to read anything you like! The goal is to encourage our community to read during the summer months - what you want to read is entirely up to you! (That said, we ask that patrons choose books that are roughly age-appropriate; adults will not be given credit for reading low-level picture books, etc.)

Can I read graphic novels/ebooks/audiobooks/self-published books/etc?

Yes! The Library welcomes you to read any kind of book in any format you wish - we're just excited that you're reading! We ask, however, that you only count books - we cannot honor pagecount from reading magazines, newspapers, websites, or other non-book resources.

Can I participate if I'm not a North Miami Beach resident?

Yes! Anyone who has a library card in good standing with the North Miami Beach Public Library is eligible to participate. (The Library will not be able to ship prizes, however, so if you'd like to win something, you'll need to be able to come into the Library to pick it up.)

What kinds of prizes can participants win?

Participants can win a selection of different prizes, from book sets to craft kits to electronics. Each age range (early readers, children, teens, and adults) will be eligible to win different age-appropriate prizes.
